Of all the created beings, the Æsir were the most powerful and wise.

Leading the Æsir was Óðinn, the wisest of all the created creatures.

Óðinn had a wife named Frigg, and together they had a son named Baldr. He was the most loved of all the Æsir, and they wanted to protect him at all costs.

To ensure that nothing in the whole universe could hurt her son, she got every created thing to swear never to harm Baldr.
